Switzerland

  • Language: No official language, but Swiss German, French, and Italian are spoken.
  • Currency: Swiss franc (CHF).
  • Clothing: Modern Western, whether it be dark jeans and a tee shirt or a stylish outfit in a larger city. If you're planning a hiking trip be sure to pack clothing you can layer.
  • Etiquette: The traditional greeting, (not necessarily on the first meeting), is three kisses on the cheek. Tipping is not required. The Swiss highly respect privacy, so keep this in mind when conversing.
  • Names: Address people by their title and last name until invited to call them by their first name. 
  • Don't: disrespect the differences between Switzerland and its surrounding countries, the Swiss are very proud of their country. Don't speak loudly in public.
