Greece

  • Language: Greek
  • Currency: Euro (€)
  • Clothing: For women, jeans, flowing linen pants, cotton shirts, skirts, (white and blue colored items are often considered fashionable), and sturdy sandals are appropriate. Church clothing should be more covering. Hats and sunglasses are great for the summer months.
  • Etiquette: Greeks are very laid-back and hospitable. Shaking hands firmly when a hand is offered to you is a good way to introduce yourself, according to Kwintessential. Among friends, a hug and a kiss on each cheek is appropriate. Punctuality is not a concern, nor is getting up close and personal. Feel free to laugh and joke with locals.
  • Names: When first addressing someone use their title and last name.
  • Don't: ever refuse food when visiting someones home, in fact, asking for another serving is a huge compliment. If you're not hungry enough for seconds at least compliment the chef. Don't correct the way someone is doing something. Don't extend your hand with five fingers open as it is considered extremely rude.
